It is going to be a fun summer! Lauren & Iain cycle the U.S.

Iain Lauren Bike

March 20, 2023 | Starting around July 6th, Iain and Lauren (father and daughter) will start riding across the U.S. from Seattle, WA to Annapolis, MD.  Total distance is about 3,500 miles and we hope to get the whole thing done in 50 days.  We plan to follow a northern route through Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland.  And to keep things interesting, we will be self-supported, carrying all our gear on the bikes and camping as we go, with the odd night in a hotel when we need a shower:)

Why are we doing this?  THAT is a good question and one that, as we get closer to the start, I am asking myself more and more often!  The answer is really ‘because it is there’ and really because Lauren convinced me to do it.  And just in case you were wondering, our collective ages are 86 years and one of us is 30 years older than the other (work it out)!

We will be raising money for MD Anderson cancer research, an organization that has made a massive difference to our family. Over three years ago, my mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Thanks to research at MD Anderson, she takes one pill every day and continues to live a normal, active life!

We're grateful for any donations to continue the groundbreaking research happening daily at MD Anderson. iGR is covering the expenses of the trip as a sponsor, so any money we raise goes to MD Anderson.  Follow this link to our donations page.

And for those of you that are iGR clients and are wondering how I am going to work and ride, don’t worry.  The plan is to get published research ready before we leave, take a small laptop and spend afternoons/evenings catching up.

We plan to blog and send photos as we go, especially of interesting cell towers in remote locations!
