Smart Buildings and Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT), a network of interconnected devices that sense and communicate data in multiple directions, has developed from the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications of the past. 3GPP refers to device-to-device communication as Machine-Type Communications (MTC). Although based on M2M communications, IoT is distinct from traditional M2M in that IoT includes not only communication but analysis and action of the data. In addition, as 5G New Core is deployed, new IoT applications and services will be supported, combining high bandwidth and/or low latency. iGR has been researching IoT for some time, including studies on connected cars and wearables.

iGR has expanded this research to include research on smart buildings and IoT connection forecasts for specific vertical industry segments, such as transportation and warehousing, healthcare, security and monitoring, manufacturing and utilities.
